Croissance économique : Le Sénégal s’appuie sur les hydrocarbures pour atteindre 8 % en 2025
The Senegalese economy is expected to experience significant growth in 2025, with an estimated real GDP growth rate of 8%, according to the latest forecasts from the General Directorate of Planning and Economic Policies (DPEE). This rebound follows growth of 6.1% in 2024.
In its report on the economic situation of Senegal in 2024 and the outlook for 2026, the DPEE underlines that this dynamic will be mainly supported by the growth of the secondary sector, whose growth is projected at 18.8% in 2025.
This sector will benefit greatly from the rise in extractive activities, particularly thanks to the start of full oil and gas production.
Hydrocarbon production is expected to experience an impressive jump, with an increase of 113.3% in 2025. It is expected to generate 30.5 million barrels of oil (from phase 1 of the Sangomar and GTA projects) and 30.2 Tbtu of liquefied natural gas.
These performances alone should contribute 3.8 points to real GDP growth. The oil and gas segment would thus represent 50.8% of extractive activities and 18.2% of the secondary sector.
The DPEE also provides for an increase in gold production, with the exploitation of the Massawa mine, estimated at 2.6 million ounces over an initial life of 12 years.
The non-hydrocarbon secondary sector is also expected to grow, with growth forecast at 4.3% in 2025 compared to 2.9% in 2024. This improvement would be driven by several industrial sub-sectors:
Oil refining: expected to increase by 11.8%, supported by the modernization of the African Refining Company (SAR) and the start of domestic crude oil supplies.
However, some sectors are experiencing a slowdown. This is the case for the manufacture of edible fats, whose expected growth falls from 18.1% in 2024 to 6.1% in 2025, despite good supply conditions.
With the effective start of oil and gas projects, and the recovery of several key industries, the year 2025 promises to be a major milestone for the Senegalese economy, marking a new phase of structural transformation.
