Dette du Sénégal : 67 organisations et personnalités publiques demandent un «audit citoyen»
There are 67 of them. Public figures, members of civil society, deputies, and even ordinary citizens have all signed a platform in which they call for a citizen audit of the public debt.
In their text, they call on the government to suspend servicing so-called "hidden" and doubtful debts until the Citizens' Audit Committee has completed its work.
They then call on the Financial Judicial Pool to "speed up the processing of the interim relief for the purpose of opening criminal proceedings transmitted by the Court of Auditors" and ask parliament to "set up a commission of inquiry into Senegal's debt situation during the period 2012-2024."
The signatories of the op-ed also call on the Senegalese people to be vigilant and mobilize to make their voices heard and assert their position. "Under no circumstances should they bear the burden of odious and unsustainable debts to the detriment of their basic needs," they say. Below is the full text of their op-ed.
