Développement durable et emploi des jeunes : les promesses du Salon International des Mines 2025

Senegal is preparing to host the 8th International Mining Exhibition, scheduled for November 4-6, 2025 at the CICAD in Diamniadio. The event, under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Basirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, aims to showcase the country's mining potential in order to attract investors.

In an exclusive interview with Seneweb, Yandé Faye, Director of Mines and Quarries, outlined her department's responsibilities. "The department currently manages all aspects of compliance with mining legislation in force in Senegal," she stated. She added that her team also validates technical reports for granting mining permits and assists senior management with environmental impact assessments. All of this is done with the aim of "ensuring compliance with current legislation."

The mining sector in Senegal is booming and attracting more and more internationally renowned companies every day. According to the director, "Next year, we will also have the pleasure of welcoming a new company, Boya SA. They have confirmed truly economically viable reserves, so there you have it, more jobs and many opportunities for the surrounding communities."

She emphasized the importance of these initiatives for the national economy and stated that they "contribute more effectively to the national economy." The digitization of the mining cadastre is another strategic component. The E-GOUV project will now allow permit applicants "to submit documents online, track and manage the permit granting process." This innovation aims to enhance transparency and simplify administrative procedures.

The International Mining Exhibition will offer a rich and diverse program. According to Yandé Faye, “Many themes will be explored during the various high-level panels. There will be numerous speakers from the national, sub-regional, and international levels.” Discussions will cover local content, the development of construction materials, and artisanal mining, considered a key driver of national mining policy. The event also facilitates B2B meetings and the planning of future projects. The director specified that many companies will be present, including small businesses and quarry operators.

Sustainable development and corporate social responsibility will also be central to the discussions. "Responsibility means transparency. Responsibility means good governance. Responsibility means respecting environmental and social standards," Yandé Faye reminded everyone.

From an economic standpoint, the trade fair could serve as a springboard for mining regions. It will allow investors to discover the country's gold, phosphate, and construction materials resources. A hackathon for young students and researchers will be organized to promote local content and innovation through artificial intelligence.

The director appealed to participants, inviting them to "come in large numbers." "We will showcase our potential, demonstrate Senegalese hospitality (Teranga), and I know they won't be disappointed," she declared. The message is out: see you from November 4th to 6th at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio.
