Gaz sénégalo-mauritanien : Kosmos fait le point et annonce un doublement de la production
Kosmos Energy, operator of the Senegalese-Mauritanian gas field, provides an update. The Texas-based company mentions a continued "ramp-up of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) project" at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project.
She explains that the floating LNG carrier operated at full nominal capacity, with 2.7 million tonnes of gas equivalent per year, in December 2025. Thus, it reached a peak production of approximately 3 million tonnes per year.
18 shipments to be sold in 2025
In total, the company explains, eighteen and a half cargoes of LNG and one cargo of condensate were loaded during the year 2025. "Thanks to this performance improvement of the Gta field, the partnership anticipates an almost doubling of the volumes loaded in 2026," the company announces in its document.
The Grand Tortue/Ahmeyin (GTA) natural gas field was discovered in 2015 with the drilling of the Tortue-1 (Ahmeyin-1) well in Mauritania and the Guembeul-1 well in Senegal. The field contains approximately 20 TCF of natural gas, equivalent to 530 billion Nm3.
This project aims, in the long term, to produce a plateau of 10 million tonnes of LNG/year from the GTA natural gas field located offshore 120 km from Saint-Louis in Senegal.
