Le gouverneur de la Bceao précise : «Il n’y a pas de crise de la dette, mais…»
The debt of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) countries is increasing. However, the Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) clarifies that there is no debt crisis. Today, he says, within the union, debt averages 62 to 63 percent of GDP.
"It has increased, but it is still below the existing standard of 70%. So we cannot say that we are in a difficult situation. We must be attentive, because it has increased, we must be vigilant, we must monitor and take appropriate measures to control the debt, but we are not in a debt crisis. There is not a debt crisis," assured Jean-Claude Kassi Brou yesterday, on the sidelines of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
The Governor of the BCEAO therefore calls for vigilance in the face of this rising debt stock. This is because it has an impact on the use of resources. Union countries are obliged to allocate substantial resources to debt repayment. This limits their ability to invest in other areas, particularly social, health, and other services. "But there is no debt crisis; we must be attentive and vigilant when the situation evolves in one direction," he says.

A Sonko-Diomaye et leur gouvernement, faites amende honorable auprès du FMI, reconnaissez votre faute et passons à autre chose.
