Le pétrole booste le secteur extractif sénégalais, mais souligne un besoin urgent de diversification
According to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD), production in Senegal's extractive industries increased by a spectacular 67.7% in the first five months of 2025, boosted by the start of oil extraction. May 2025 marked a peak with an increase of 60.3%, confirming the central role of oil as a key driver of the national economy.
However, this dynamic is not benefiting the entire sector. Metal ores declined by 4.8%, and other extractive sectors fell by 14.2%. This imbalance reveals structural weaknesses and a growing dependence on a single resource, oil, which masks the weaknesses of other sectors.
This development highlights a major challenge: diversification. While the oil boom attracts investment and increases revenues, it risks weakening other extractive sectors and limiting local economic benefits, compromising the overall resilience of the economy. To transform this energy engine into a lever for sustainable development, Senegal must combine oil exploitation with a diversification strategy. The challenge is to build a more inclusive extractive sector, capable of supporting the entire economy without relying solely on oil.

Les reflexions devraient se porter ailleurs.
Comment soutenir cette augmentation?
Comment accompagner le secteur du pétrole (ressouces humaines, inclusion du secteur privé nationale, logistiques, administrations etc.. )?... je pense.
