At the Roland-Garros stadium, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye presented his economic vision to hundreds of leaders gathered for the Rencontre des Entrepreneurs de France (REF) at Roland-Garros Stadium. Between openness to investors, the fight against corruption, the development of renewable energy, and the promotion of youth, he defended a model of balanced partnership with the private sector. Seneweb , present on site, reviews the key moments of his speech.
Focus on stability and trust
At the outset of his speech, the Senegalese head of state emphasized the importance of a secure environment to attract foreign capital. " Senegal remains a country open to all partners and has succeeded in establishing a stable, predictable, and sustainable environment. It is conducive to security and the protection of investments , " he stated.
He also reiterated his government's objective of building "a bilateral dynamic" with its economic partners, even in a context of "competition and, unfortunately, growing trade war."
Reforms to unlock economic potential
Bassirou Diomaye Faye outlined a series of measures aimed at improving the business climate. "The objective is clear: to reduce risks, simplify procedures, increase predictability, and significantly improve the business climate."
He announced the creation of an "investment body" intended to offer targeted incentives to strategic sectors, a tax reform that is "more transparent, more competitive and better adapted to the reality of businesses", as well as a modernization of the customs framework.
The fight against corruption also plays a central role. "We want to restore trust in public institutions and encourage responsible behavior among citizens and businesses. The goal is to level the playing field for healthier competition," the president insisted.
Energy and digital technology, levers of transformation
Energy and digital technology were presented as two pillars of Senegal's attractiveness. "In the energy sector, our capacities are constantly increasing, with a significant share of renewable energies in our mix," recalled Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
On the digital front, he highlighted the "New Digital Technologies" strategy, which includes the creation of a technology park in Diamniadio. "This opens up new markets for innovative solutions aimed at international startups," he said.
Food sovereignty and modern infrastructure
Agribusiness also featured prominently in his remarks. "Agribusiness, with its agricultural products, is at the heart of our ambition for food sovereignty," he said, before highlighting Senegal's efforts to conquer "increasingly demanding markets, particularly that of African tomatoes."
He also highlighted the infrastructure currently being developed, whether highways, ports, airports or logistics corridors, which should strengthen the country's integration into regional and global value chains.
Youth as a driving force
One of the most applauded passages concerned demographics. “More than half of our population is under 25. These educated, connected, and creative young people represent a unique talent pool for our country.”
The president assured that he was investing "massively in training, innovation, and entrepreneurship in order to transform this demographic into a competitive advantage." He concluded on this theme: "Youth are without a doubt our best asset for winning this match of the future."
A clear message to French entrepreneurs
In conclusion, Bassirou Diomaye Faye made a direct appeal to French business leaders. "Senegal offers a growing market, recognized political stability, a modernized legal environment, and opportunities in strategic sectors with high potential," he said.
Then he insisted: "It is time for you to play a decisive role and, in your most creative choices, to turn to Senegal. With these assets, we can work together in a spirit of renewed partnership, focused on innovation, sustainability and the joint search for new opportunities."
Finally, his closing remarks resonated like a unifying slogan: "Senegal is ready, not only to play the match, but to win it with you, as an ambitious and committed partner."
