Le Sénégal séduit les investisseurs mais reste à la marge sur la scène mondiale
Senegal has entered the circle of ten African destinations considered most attractive for investment, according to the Global Attractiveness Index 2025. Ranked 8th on the continent and 97th worldwide, the country is reaping the benefits of its political stability and vigorous economic growth, while remaining penalized by its fiscal fragility.
This ranking comes in a contrasting context. On the one hand, the Court of Auditors revealed a budgetary liability marked by high debt and an underestimated deficit, which weigh on the State's room for maneuver. On the other, institutional solidity and the climate of political stability continue to reassure investors, bolstered by the impressive economic performance of the first quarter of 2025, with growth of 12.1% boosted by the first hydrocarbon revenues.
This dual face illustrates Senegal's unique position. On the continent, it has managed to rise to a leading group dominated by major emerging economies. On a global scale, however, its score of 25.2 out of 100 keeps it in the category of unattractive countries, highlighting the distance that still separates the Senegalese economy from international standards in terms of competitiveness and business climate.
The challenge now is to transform this visibility into a genuine lever of confidence. To achieve this, it will be necessary to consolidate macroeconomic foundations, diversify growth drivers, and attract investments capable of going beyond the extractive sector, so that entry into the African Top 10 is not just a promise but the starting point for sustainable momentum.
