L’UEMOA franchit une étape décisive, avec l’interopérabilité des paiements
The BCEAO has formalized the launch of interoperability in the community space, opening a new era for financial transactions. Banks, fintechs, and mobile money operators are now connected, allowing users to seamlessly transfer money from a bank account to an electronic wallet or from one operator to another.
This breakthrough is profoundly transforming the daily lives of citizens and businesses. It reduces the barriers between financial systems that previously hampered the growth of digital payments. By making transfers simpler and less expensive, it should foster the growth of digital financial services and ease the burden of fees on millions of users, particularly in rural areas where mobile money plays a central role.
Beyond convenience, a quiet revolution is taking shape. Interoperability paves the way for a more competitive market, encourages players to innovate, and strengthens operational security. It also places WAEMU in the global movement toward greater financial integration, while bringing the regional economy closer to international standards.
This reform illustrates the monetary authorities' desire to build a more modern and equitable system, where access to financial services becomes an effective right and not a privilege. It thus outlines the contours of a more fluid West African finance system that is closer to the social and economic realities of the population.
