Marchés financiers africains : résilience et maturité malgré l’incertitude mondiale
According to the Africa Financial Markets Index 2025 published by Omfif (Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum), African financial markets are showing increasing maturity and resilience, even in a global economic context marked by uncertainty.
The emergence of new instruments such as sovereign sukuk (bonds compliant with Islamic finance) and green bonds (intended to finance ecological and sustainable projects), combined with structural reforms, helps diversify financing sources and attract more local and international investors. This development reflects an increased capacity of African economies to mobilize capital to support strategic projects and sustainable development.
South Africa, Mauritius, and Nigeria are among the top-ranked markets, benefiting from robust financial infrastructure and a clear regulatory framework. Rwanda, Botswana, and Ghana are showing the greatest progress, driven by regional integration policies, the consolidation of regulators, and initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency and transaction security.
These performances illustrate that the diversification and modernization of financial markets have become essential levers for attracting long-term capital and supporting productive investment.
However, challenges remain. The reform of the credit rating system remains incomplete, and the quality and availability of financial data still require improvements to strengthen investor confidence. Experts emphasize that stable public policies and the active role of regulators are crucial to transforming these markets into solid and reliable platforms.
Strengthening governance, transparency and financial innovation thus appear to be essential conditions for consolidating the maturity of African markets and supporting the financing of sustainable development on the continent.
