Mission en cours du Fmi au Sénégal : Ce qu’en dit le Directeur général du Budget
A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is currently in Senegal. The stakes are high for the Senegalese government, which is currently facing enormous budgetary difficulties since the hidden debt scandal became public. This Wednesday, Budget Director Massamba Dieng spoke about the discussions with IMF officials.
"The stakes of this mission are simply to move forward, to allow us to move beyond this situation. On both sides, there is a will that is there, that is observed, that is permanent. And Inshallah, I believe that this situation will be overcome as quickly as possible in order to allow Senegal to continue its march towards development," he indicated.
Mr. Dieng was speaking during the workshop to share circular letter number 154/Mfb/Dgb/Dpb of July 23, 2025, relating to the preparation of the 2026 budget. The objective of the meeting is to draw conclusions and lessons from the execution of the 2025 budget, and also to share guidelines for the execution of the 2026 Budget.
In the current context, where the State is facing budgetary difficulties, the key word in the development of the initial 2026 finance law remains the rationalization of public spending, especially operating expenses. This is in order to "better increase investment spending and, above all, to ensure the efficiency of spending and finance the most impactful projects," he said.
