Pétrole sénégalais : l'argument de Woodside sur les 41 milliards que lui réclame l’Etat du Sénégal
The standoff between the Senegalese government and Woodside continues. The Senegalese tax authorities are demanding more than 41 billion CFA francs from the operator of the Sangomar field, following a tax adjustment. The oil company, which holds an 82% stake in this major Senegalese oil project, has also countersued in court. This Tuesday, it published its financial report for the first half of the year. In this report, it addressed the issue.
"Woodside has filed a claim with the Dakar High Court and a request for arbitration with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, contesting a tax assessment of approximately $75 million by the Senegalese tax authorities," the oil company announced.
In its defense, Woodside states that most of what the Senegalese tax authorities are claiming is covered by the terms of the contract: "The majority of tax claims relate to the application of an exemption applicable during the development phase of the project," it argues in its financial report.

Unfortunately, many African leaders continue to fail their people through corruption, incompetence, and lack of vision. We're rich in resources and potential, yet we remain plagued by poverty, disease, conflict, and hunger. Compared to the West, it often feels like we're centuries behind. This isn't because we lack the ability—but because leadership has failed to rise to the challenge. Africa can and must do better.
