Pouvoir d’achat, agriculture et industrie : des avancées majeures en 2025 et des perspectives pour 2026
Purchasing power, agriculture and industry: major progress in 2025 and prospects for 2026
In his address to the nation on December 31, 2025, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reviewed the progress made in strategic economic sectors. The Head of State highlighted key measures aimed at improving purchasing power, agricultural performance, and industrial recovery.
Purchasing power: real relief for households
“In 2025, government measures to reduce the prices of essential goods enabled Senegalese people to save 342.5 billion CFA francs. These efforts target the entire population, with particular attention paid to the most vulnerable households,” stated Bassirou Diomaye Faye. According to the president, this policy will continue in 2026 to strengthen families' ability to cope with the cost of living and improve their daily lives.
Agriculture: towards food sovereignty
The agricultural sector recorded significant performance during the past year. "Cereal production exceeded 2.5 million tons, while the peanut sector regained positive momentum. These results are the fruit of the provision of appropriate equipment and inputs to producers, as well as targeted support for agricultural stakeholders in rural areas," the Head of State stated.
For 2026, the government plans additional investments to strengthen food sovereignty. Priorities include developing irrigation on 15,000 hectares, supporting community agricultural cooperatives, and assisting the first integrated farms. Furthermore, the agro-industrial parks in the South and Central regions will receive 91 billion CFA francs to boost production, local processing, and job creation.
Industry: Recovery and job creation
The industrial sector has also undergone a decisive transformation. "Industry has experienced a revival with the relaunch of SONACOS, after a two-year hiatus, creating more than 2,300 direct jobs," the president stated. This momentum will be further supported in 2026 by an allocation of 25 billion CFA francs earmarked for the modernization of production facilities.
Furthermore, over 8,000 SMEs received support in 2025, consolidating or creating nearly 130,000 direct and indirect jobs. According to the Head of State, these efforts contribute to boosting the economy and diversifying professional opportunities for Senegalese citizens.
Towards sustainable and inclusive development
For President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, these advances reflect a clear commitment to strengthening purchasing power, supporting domestic production, and revitalizing industry. The measures planned for 2026 aim to build a more resilient and inclusive economy, leveraging the dynamism of young people and the mobilization of local stakeholders.
