Thierno Lô plaide pour une agriculture modernisée et un secteur privé moteur du redressement
Guest of the RFM "Grand Jury" yesterday, Sunday, September 21, Thierno Lô, former Minister of the Environment under Abdoulaye Wade, called for agriculture and the private sector to be the real levers of Senegal's economic development.
According to the president of the Alliance for Peace and Development (APD), the country can no longer continue to "swallow hundreds of billions each year in rice, wheat, or corn imports." The urgent need, he insists, is to invest in productive, mechanized agriculture capable of meeting the country's food needs. "We must produce what we consume and process what we produce," he said.
Thierno Lô believes, however, that the state alone cannot meet this challenge. "The private sector must be at the heart of this transformation. It is by guaranteeing transparency, stability, and legal certainty that we will be able to attract investors," he said.
Also, the former Minister of Handicrafts, Tourism and Relations with the Private and Informal Sectors under Abdoulaye Wade believes that the State must guarantee a stable and transparent business climate, by fighting corruption and securing investments.
He also called for better integration of the informal sector, which he considers "essential" to the country's economic dynamics. "As long as we do not consider artisans, traders, and small businesses as true economic players, we will continue to slow down our own growth," he warned.
He also called for greater involvement of the diaspora and the establishment of public-private partnerships to finance major structural projects. For him, "modern agriculture and a dynamic private sector" are inseparable if Senegal wants to build sustainable economic sovereignty.

Pour la "formalisation" de l'informel, je crois que l'équipe en place qui compte pas mal d'inspecteurs des impôts saura bien faire
