Abdou Mbow à Olivier Boucal : « Nous craignons le pire à l’université »
In a recent statement, Abdou Mbow expressed his concern about the situation at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), following a statement from the rectorate indicating that the UCAD Academic Council had met and authorized the rector to request the intervention of law enforcement to ensure security on the teaching campus.
Mbow pointed out that Law No. 94-79 on university freedoms, particularly Articles 6 and 7, strictly regulates the presence of police or gendarmerie on campuses. He argued that the university is currently under a virtual state of siege and that the presence of law enforcement could provoke tensions.
He also took the opportunity to address a message to the Minister of Finance, stressing that the student grant issue must be resolved quickly. Abdou Mbow criticized the Minister of Higher Education's broken promises to parliamentarians last Monday, stating that the current situation is both serious and worrying for students.
