Conseil des ministres : Black-out sur la situation à l’UCAD
The situation at UCAD is not making headlines within the government. During Wednesday's cabinet meeting, high-ranking state officials maintained a complete silence on the university crisis. Neither President Bassirou Diomaye Faye nor Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko deemed it necessary to address the issue.
The issue is therefore mentioned very briefly in the final communiqué from the Council of Ministers. "The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has..."
"A communication on improving the student grant payment system." That's all.
It is true that the government was at the National Assembly on Friday. Minister Daouda Ngom provided a detailed response outlining the government's position on the scholarship payments that are at the heart of the current crisis. However, this should not prevent the president from addressing the issue, especially since the situation at UCAD has deteriorated in the meantime, leading to the deployment of security forces on campus.
Today, the situation was tense at the social campus. Several figures spoke out about the situation. But not the president or his prime minister.
