Crise à l’UCAD : le Conseil académique suspend les amicales d'étudiants
The Academic Council of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, chaired by the Rector, Professor Alioune Badara Kandji. Addressing the issue of the "security situation," the Council examined the incidents that occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026, on the student campus, during which Abdoulaye Baa, a second-year medical student, "lost his life." In response to this tragedy, the institution decided to "suspend, as a precautionary measure and until further notice, all student associations."
In order to avoid paralyzing the institution, the Council resolved to "ensure the continuity of teaching and research activities, while respecting the process of normalizing the academic calendar." Furthermore, it was decided to establish an ad hoc committee tasked with "formulating proposals regarding student representation within university bodies." To support the community, the Rectorate also decided to "establish support units to assist the various components of UCAD."
The Academic Council concluded by reiterating its commitment to "the manifestation of truth and respect for the principles that underpin the university institution."
