Crise scolaire : La COSYDEP lance une alerte nationale et appelle à sauver l’année
Three months before the end of the school year, COSYDEP (Coalition of organizations in synergy for the defense of public education) is sounding the alarm about a crisis that it considers to be of worrying gravity for the future of Senegalese schools.
In a statement, the organization speaks of a genuine "national alert," believing that the future of a generation and the stability of the country's human capital are now at stake.
According to COSYDEP, the education system is currently marked by a profound paralysis: more than 150 hours of classes lost, a boycott of assessments and teaching units, as well as a climate of threats and tensions that complicates any search for solutions.
This situation, she warns, exposes students to risks of dropping out of school, weakens academic performance and accentuates inequalities, particularly for candidates for national public school exams.
COSYDEP also denounces a public debate diverted towards political controversies, while the school, considered a pillar of development and a social elevator, is faltering under the weight of the crisis.
Faced with this urgent situation, the organization is calling for exceptional and immediate responses. It invites the Prime Minister to personally lead a dialogue and monitoring process for the education sector, while also requesting the direct involvement of the Head of State to ease tensions and reassure the educational community.
COSYDEP members are also advocating for a minimal and immediate agreement in order to restore confidence and allow a rapid return to normal school operations.
Finally, it recommends taking advantage of the summer holidays to undertake a broad process of reforming the education system, focusing on improving the school environment, student safety, modernizing the system and ensuring the relevance of the programs.
"The future of the school can no longer be held hostage. Every day of inaction further weakens the future of children and compromises the sustainable development of the nation," warns COSYDEP, calling for a general mobilization to save the school year.
