Crise universitaire : Les étudiants de Saint-Louis se mobilisent pour défendre les droits de leurs camarades de l'UCAD
In a statement released on Thursday, February 12, the Coordination of Students of Saint-Louis (CESL) denounced the repression and persecution faced by students of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) at the hands of the defense and security forces.
She strongly condemns these practices, which infringe upon fundamental freedoms and the freedom of student association, guaranteed by the Constitution and universal principles of human rights. She also denounces the ill-considered decision by the UCAD Academic Council to suspend student associations. "A decision, taken in a climate of tension, that will only exacerbate the crisis and instill a climate of fear where dialogue and responsibility should prevail."
Therefore, the Coordination has decided to postpone its call for a complete cessation of teaching activities and maintains its strike call in other forms. It demands the immediate cessation of harassment and persecution against student representatives, the full payment of back pay owed to eligible students, and the preservation of existing rights until a joint review of Decree 8°2014-963 concerning student grants.
Furthermore, she challenged the Director of the Regional Centre for University and School Services (CROUS) on his duty of responsibility and transparency, and demanded that he fully assume his decisions to close or reopen restaurants.
