Crise universitaire : Les instructions fermes du président Bassirou Diomaye Faye
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye gave firm instructions to the government on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, aimed at modernizing and sustainably stabilizing the higher education, research and innovation sector, which has been marked by crises.
Describing this sector as "critical" for the success of the Senegal 2050 Vision, the Head of State stressed the complexity of the problems affecting it, while calling for structural and consensual solutions, according to the press release from the Council of Ministers.
After paying tribute to the memory of student Abdoulaye Ba, who died amid university tensions, he offered his condolences to his family, the university community, and the entire Senegalese people.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for the higher education and research system to be aligned with the best international standards.
According to the same source, the Head of State instructed the government to establish a permanent dialogue with all components of the university community, in order to ensure respect for academic calendars, the requirements of the LMD system as well as the rules of administrative, budgetary and financial governance of public universities and social welfare centers.
The President of the Republic finally stressed the need to accelerate the consensual validation of the recommendations resulting from the consultations relating to the National Agenda for the transformation of higher education, research and innovation.
