CUSEMS : « Putsch syndical »
The United Union of Secondary School Teachers (CUSEMS) is shaken by an internal crisis following the congress of September 29, which led to the election of Aliou Diouf as the new general secretary.
Two camps in a battle for legitimacy
Aliou Diouf's victory was immediately contested by outgoing Secretary General Ndongo Sarr, who denounced a "factionalist maneuver" and a "flagrant violation of the statutes." Quoted by L'AS, the latter described the event as a "sham congress" and threatened sanctions against members he considered "self-excluded" for having defied the union's legitimate authorities.
On the other hand, the newspaper continues, Aliou Diouf's camp, led by Babou Diouf, defends the regularity of the vote and accuses Ndongo Sarr of having tried, on the eve of the congress, to block the democratic process.
Suspicions of a "union putsch"
According to Babou Diouf, quoted by the same source, the outgoing secretary general had planned a congress on September 28, deliberately excluding 68 of the 264 voting delegates, including some from strategic regions such as Fatick, Mbour, and Thiès. This maneuver was aimed, according to him, at "imposing a minority congress, biased and held on the sly" in order to push through a candidate endorsed by the former office. He does not hesitate to describe this attempt as a "union putsch."
