Domou Sénégal inaugure la réhabilitation complète de l’école primaire El Hadji Ibrahima Diop Youssouf (ex-Clémenceau)
On the occasion of the start of the 2025-2026 school year, the Domou Senegal Citizen Association inaugurated, this Wednesday, October 8, the complete rehabilitation of the El Hadji Ibrahima Diop Youssouf (ex-Clémenceau) primary school , located in the heart of the Medina in Dakar, in the presence of Mr. Mass Bousso , deputy sub-prefect of Dakar Plateau , local authorities, teachers, students and the media.
This initiative is a continuation of Domou Senegal 's commitment to education, following the successful rehabilitation of the Tafsir Ndiaga Gueye school in Yoff in 2024.
The Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mamba Guirassy , expressed his support for this citizen initiative. He visited the site halfway through the work, accompanied by his delegation, to see firsthand the extent of the efforts made and to praise the exemplary mobilization of the Domou Senegal association in favor of public education.
A month of intensive work to bring the school back to life
For over a month, 28 masons, carpenters, painters and metalworkers worked tirelessly to transform the school and provide students with a safe, modern and welcoming learning environment.
The main works carried out include:
Masonry and security : construction of protective walls, repair of cracks, installation of security grilles, barbed wire and new entrance gate.
Plumbing and sanitation : creation of new toilets for nursery schools, renovation of existing toilets (painting, doors, drainage, hand washing basins).
Glasswork and carpentry : replacement of more than 300 broken windows in classrooms and common areas.
School furniture : refurbishment of all the school tables , as well as the repair of the blackboards (sanding and slate).
Painting and frescoes : complete renovation of the school and creation of colorful frescoes in the courtyard.
. Exterior developments : creation of a central garden in the courtyard, improvement of circulation spaces and play areas.
A ceremony rich in symbols
The inauguration ceremony, chaired by the mayor of Dakar Plateau, Mr. Alioune Ndoye , was marked by a visit to the renovated classrooms, official speeches and a moment of intense emotion when the school children sang the national anthem of Senegal , a symbol of unity and fraternity.
It ended with a large celebratory buffet offered to all participants.
Domou Senegal: education at the heart of its civic mission
Through this action, Domou Senegal reaffirms that education is a top priority and a fundamental pillar of its social commitment. By working towards safer, healthier, and more welcoming schools, the association helps create an environment conducive to the development and success of Senegal's children.
" We deeply believe that every child deserves to grow up and learn in dignified conditions. This is our way, as citizens, of contributing to the future of our country ," declared the President of Domou Senegal during the ceremony.
Founded in 2023, the Domou Senegal association is a citizen initiative working in the fields of education, health, sport and social affairs.
Its mission is to strengthen solidarity and cohesion between all communities in Senegal through concrete and meaningful actions.
