Forum de la TRG à Saint-Louis : experts et universitaires décryptent l’Afrique face au « désordre mondial »
Gathered in Saint-Louis around the theme "Africa Facing Global Disorder," academics, researchers, and students debated the geopolitical challenges facing the continent. Marked by the presence of Professor Babacar Kanté as guest of honor, this meeting, initiated by the Geopolitical Reflection Forum (TRG) of the University Gaston Berger (UGB), provided a valuable forum for exchange and strategic reflection on Africa's place in a rapidly changing world.
The CRDS, formerly IFAN in Saint-Louis, hosted a major geopolitical forum this weekend dedicated to the theme: "Africa Facing Global Disorder." Organized by the Geopolitical Reflection Group (TRG), a group of students from the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Gaston Berger University (UGB), this meeting brought together academics, researchers, students, and members of the intellectual community.
One of the highlights of the day was the presence of Professor Babacar Kanté, the event's guest of honor. A renowned figure in Senegalese academia and a specialist in institutional and geopolitical issues, he shared his expertise with participants during the various panels and discussions dedicated to the challenges facing Africa in an international context marked by profound changes.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Amsatou Sow Sidibé, President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH). Alongside her, several renowned academics, including Professor Babacar Kanté and Professor Babaly Sall, enriched the discussions with their analyses of contemporary geostrategic issues.
Speaking on behalf of the TRG, its president, Amadou Chérif Diao, emphasized the importance of strategic thinking in a world undergoing profound transformation.
"Modern geopolitics does not reward the richest. It rewards the most strategic," he said, believing that Africa remains at the heart of global issues while too often being left out of major international decisions.
According to him, African peoples need to invest more in the field of intellectual reflection in order to better understand the transformations underway.
"Thinking about Africa is already a way of building it," he argued before an audience composed mainly of students and teacher-researchers.
Analyzing the evolution of the international order, Amadou Chérif Diao emphasized that the current global disorder is no longer a mere conjuncture, but is tending to become a veritable system. He thus urged Africans to move beyond the idea that their continent represents only the future.
"Africa must no longer be the continent of the future. It must become the continent of the present," he stated.
In closing his speech, the president of the TRG stressed the need for African states to develop a strategic vision in the face of global upheavals.
"Global disorder is a test for weak nations, but an opportunity for visionary nations," he said.
Through this initiative, the TRG confirms its commitment to making Gaston Berger University a privileged space for reflection and debate on major geopolitical issues, while offering students the opportunity to exchange ideas with leading figures such as Professor Babacar Kanté.
