Grève dans l’éducation : Le G7 déclenche un troisième plan d’action et appelle au boycott des évaluations dès le 28 janvier
Tensions are rising again between the government and the G7, the coalition of the main teachers' unions in Senegal. Meeting in plenary session on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the union organization reviewed its second action plan and examined the meeting of the Agreement Monitoring Committee held on Friday, January 23, chaired by the Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Public Service Reform.
Following this meeting, the G7 expressed its satisfaction with the strong mobilization of teachers during previous actions. The union coalition particularly welcomed the massive participation of teachers from all regions of the country in the march organized in Thiès on January 22nd, which it considers a strong signal sent to the authorities.
However, the atmosphere remains tense. According to the G7, the meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the agreements failed to produce any concrete progress. The unions denounce what they call the government's "dilatory tactics," characterized, in their view, by the absence of any real proposals for resolving the outstanding issues of the signed agreements.
The G7 goes further by condemning the "inertia" of the authorities as well as certain statements by ministers which it interprets as attempts at intimidation, instead of paving the way for structural solutions to the demands of teachers.
Faced with this situation, the union coalition has decided to take the struggle to the next level. It has announced the launch of a third action plan aimed at compelling the government to honor its commitments.
This plan is structured around three key dates:
With this new series of actions, the G7 reaffirms its determination to achieve the resolution of social liabilities and the opening of serious negotiations on the sector's new concerns.
"Long live the struggle to clear the social debt and the opening of serious negotiations on new issues! Long live the Senegalese school system!" the statement concluded.
