In Sédhiou, the "Making School" project is actively working towards the inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream schools, who currently represent 7% of the student population. For Omar Diallo, a school life inspector, the initiative aims to identify these students and train educational staff to guarantee their fundamental right to education. The goal is to break down the physical and social barriers that hinder their development.
Meanwhile, Habib Dramé, in charge of the Daaras, emphasizes the need for specific support to ensure their socio-professional integration. Supporting this vision, Assane Lô, from the Daaras Directorate at the Ministry of National Education, advocates for increased awareness to eliminate barriers to an inclusive school system where every child, regardless of their abilities, finds their place within the education system.
