Situation universitaire : « La solution passe par le dialogue », insiste Mamadou Aliou Diallo

The atmosphere remains tense in several public universities in Senegal, marked by student strikes and demonstrations. At Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), as in some regional universities, the anger is mainly linked to delays in scholarship payments, social insecurity, and deteriorating study conditions.

Appearing on the program "Le Jury du Dimanche" on iRadio, Mamadou Aliou Diallo, a member of the Diomaye President coalition's task force, acknowledged the legitimacy of the students' demands while calling for calm. "The students have every right to demand their scholarships. But the solution lies in dialogue, responsibility, and non-violent communication," he stated. According to him, the relevant authorities have received instructions to quickly open discussions with student representatives in order to reach a lasting solution. "The Ministry of Higher Education and the Scholarship Directorate have received clear instructions to work toward a compromise with the students," he clarified.

Mamadou Aliou Diallo also emphasized the importance of placing this crisis within a broader national context, which he considers generally stable and conducive to reforms. "Senegal is evolving in a healthy and favorable environment under the leadership of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye," he stated. Beyond the issue of scholarships, students are highlighting overcrowded lecture halls, outdated infrastructure, a lack of teaching materials, and difficult living conditions in university residences. For many observers, these problems reflect the structural limitations of a university system that has been under pressure for many years.

In this context, "dialogue appears to be the only way out of the crisis. Frank, inclusive dialogue followed by concrete actions is essential; otherwise, trust between students and authorities risks eroding further," the guest speaker stated. According to him, "for many students, scholarships represent their sole source of income, covering food, housing, transportation, and the purchase of learning materials. Each delayed payment thus jeopardizes thousands of academic paths and fuels tension on campuses."

lorsque l'on dort debout. l'on ne fait que raconter des bobards et des stupidités. une refonte du système universitaire s'impose, non un dialogue qui ne résoudra neni. des dialogues, on en a assez
