The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine has decided to suspend classes at the faculty until Monday, December 1st. In a statement dated November 27th, Professor Bara Ndiaye justifies the measure by citing "disruptions related to the student strike."

Therefore, this is not a suspension of classes at Ucad, but just in one of its entities, namely the Faculty of Medicine.

It is true that for the past few days, student protests demanding the payment of scholarships have seriously disrupted the course of activities. Certainly, the university continues to function, and events are taking place. For example, the CAMES competitive examination for university professorships, which concluded last Friday, was held without disruption. The REESAO conference, which brings together the rectors of African universities, is also taking place, as are numerous other activities.

However, movement within UCAD is difficult due to blockades erected by strikers. Some lecture halls have been evacuated mid-class, and scheduled exams may be postponed. All of this is happening while the UCAD university community is fighting to normalize the academic calendar. These disruptions are therefore complicating the achievement of this objective, which is so important to the Ministry of Higher Education.

This means that the payment of scholarships is not solely a student issue; it also impacts UCAD, both academically and in terms of its international standing. Indeed, UCAD hosts many African and international events that require calm and stability. Some have been relocated and others postponed due to the disruptions.
