UGB : la CESL décrète 48 heures de cessation des activités pédagogiques
Tensions have resurfaced at Gaston Berger University (UGB) in Saint-Louis. The Saint-Louis Student Coordination (CESL) declared a 48-hour suspension of all academic activities on Monday, a measure described as non-renewable.
With this decision, the CESL intends to draw the attention of university and state authorities to demands deemed priorities by the students. At the heart of their demands is the full payment of back pay owed to eligible students, an issue that, according to the students, has persisted for several months.
Another key point raised by the coordinating body is the preservation of students' acquired rights, pending a collaborative review of Decree No. 2014-963 concerning student grants. The CESL believes that any amendment to this regulation must be made within an inclusive framework, fully involving student representatives.
In its statement, the Saint-Louis Student Coordination Committee reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending the material and moral interests of students. It also expresses its openness to dialogue, while calling on the relevant authorities to provide concrete and urgent responses to the concerns raised.
Meanwhile, academic activities remain paralyzed at UGB for a period of 48 hours, in an atmosphere marked by vigilance and mobilization of the student movement.
