UGB : Pourquoi les étudiants de Saint-Louis ont décidé de paralyser le campus !
Tensions remain high at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis. In a press release published on March 21, 2026, the Saint-Louis Student Coordination (CESL) announced that it would maintain its strike action due to a lack of satisfactory responses from the authorities.
According to the CESL, an ultimatum had previously been sent to the relevant authorities, with the aim of obtaining concrete responses to the demands made for a resolution to the crisis. But to date, the student organization laments, no significant progress has been made.
In a firm tone, student representatives denounced the authorities' "unprecedented indifference" to their concerns. Consequently, they called on all students to remain at home until further notice, thus further paralyzing academic activities on campus.
The CESL does not intend to stop there. It warns that it reserves the right to use "its full arsenal of union action" to achieve its demands and guarantee respect for students' rights.
Despite rising tensions, the student coordinating committee reaffirms its commitment and willingness to continue discussions, solely in the students' best interests. This stance suggests the possibility of dialogue, provided that concrete solutions are quickly implemented.
This new escalation comes in a context already marked by recurring tensions between students and university authorities, reigniting the debate on study conditions and governance within UGB.
