Thiès : ivre, il vole l’arme d’un policier et la revend… jusqu’à 400 000 F CFA
In Thiès, an unusual incident shook the Nguinth police station: after a fight in a bar where he had been beaten up, O. Ngom, heavily intoxicated, went to the police station to complain.
Turned away by the officers, he took the opportunity to steal a police officer's service weapon. The pistol, initially sold for 30,000 CFA francs, then circulated between six fences, fetching up to 400,000 CFA francs, before disappearing for good, reports L'Observateur in its edition of this Saturday, September 13.
The same source points out that O. Ngom, arrested in Dakar, admitted to the theft, explaining that he had acted under the influence of alcohol. The receivers, tried at the Thiès flagrante delicto court, all admitted to having bought and resold the weapon, claiming to be unaware of its illegal origin.
Quoted by the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, the police officer who was the victim, MF, said that he had 450,000 CFA francs deducted from his salary to cover the loss.
The court ultimately sentenced O. Ngom to two years in prison, eight months of which were to be served, and the receivers to three months each. All will jointly and severally pay 600,000 CFA francs to the injured officer.
