Mort du réalisateur Rob Reiner : L'attaque incroyable de Trump contre le défunt
In an incredibly aggressive message, Donald Trump claimed on Monday that the death of Rob Reiner, who along with his wife was the victim of an "apparent homicide" according to police, was the result of the famous director's "rabid" anti-Trumpism, drawing outraged responses even from within his own party.
Rob Reiner's death was "due to the anger he provoked in others" with his "anti-Trump neurosis," the US president wrote on his Truth Social network.
He uses the term "Trump Derangement Syndrome", popularized by his supporters to describe what they consider to be an irrational hostility towards Donald Trump, to the point of being comparable to a mental illness.
"He was known for driving people CRAZY with his rabid obsession against President Donald J. Trump," the US president also wrote.
The message concludes with: "May Rob and Michele rest in peace."
Donald Trump, who readily brings current events back to himself, is known to be particularly vindictive.
Since his return to power, he has also increasingly disregarded basic conventions or rules of courtesy.
He has publicly stated that he "hated" his opponents and did not subscribe to the notion of forgiveness.
His message about Rob Reiner's death outraged several political figures, including two elected officials from his own majority.
"The lack of empathy and elegance towards the Reiner family in their moment of profound grief and sorrow is pathetic and revealing," said David Axelrod, former adviser to Democratic President Barack Obama and now a political analyst on CNN, on X.
Republican congressman Thomas Massie, who frequently opposes Donald Trump, also criticized the president's reaction.
"Regardless of what you thought of Rob Reiner, these are inappropriate and disrespectful statements about a man who was just brutally murdered," he said on X.
"I imagine that my fellow elected Republicans, the vice president, and the White House staff will simply ignore it because they are afraid? I challenge anyone to defend" those remarks, the Kentucky congressman added.
Radical right-wing politician Marjorie Taylor Greene, an early Trump supporter who has distanced herself from the president in recent months, also highlighted the pain that the families of the director and his wife must be feeling.
"This is a family tragedy, not a matter of politics or political enemies," she said in a message on X accompanied by an image of Donald Trump's post.

Je me demande parfois comment les américains ont fait pour élire un tel individu.
