The trial in the so-called Omart City case, initially scheduled for last Tuesday before the Pikine-Guédiawaye Criminal Court, has been postponed until September 9. The reason, reports Les Échos, which attended the hearing: one of the magistrates on the bench had already investigated the case and was therefore unable to sit.
This case concerns a vast network of alleged real estate fraud involving more than 500 victims, each having paid between 5,500 and 6,000 CFA francs for fictitious social housing, the newspaper details.
The daily newspaper points out that Abdoulaye Mamadou Guissé, president of Omart City Senegal, is at the helm of the scheme. Guissé is accused of using the image of Khady Faye, a supposed associate of President Diomaye Faye, to deceive subscribers.
He, along with Khady Faye and Pape Boubacar Camara, his chief of staff, who were arrested and placed in custody, are being prosecuted for fraud and money laundering, among other charges.
