Khalifa Sall rend visite à Badara Gadiaga à Rebeuss et plaide pour la libération des "détenus d'opinion"
The former mayor of Dakar and president of Taxawu Senegal visited the Rebeuss prison to support TFM columnist Badara Gadiaga, who has been incarcerated for several weeks. He took the opportunity to appeal to the authorities.
In a message published after this meeting, the former mayor of Dakar painted a touching portrait of the prisoner and launched a vibrant plea for freedom of expression.
In the words of Khalifa Sall, he found in Badara Gadiaga "a calm, serene man, going through the ordeal with exemplary dignity." This description contrasts with the image one might have of an incarcerated person and, according to the president of Taxawu Senegal, testifies to the columnist's strength of character.
This visit is part of a show of solidarity with the man who is presented as a defender of freedom of expression, currently facing the rigors of the judicial system.
A plea for freedom of expression
Beyond his personal support, Khalifa Ababacar Sall transformed this visit into a political platform. He did so to send a strong message to the authorities: "To stifle freedom of expression is to stifle the truth."
