Tribunal de Thiès : Il passe la nuit dans une maison inoccupée avant d'y voler une machine à laver
E. Dia appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of theft. The incident occurred in the Parcelles-Assainies district of Thiès, the railway capital. He is accused of breaking into the home of F. Loum, a house belonging to her mother, who is currently in Dakar for medical treatment.
In court, the plaintiff explained that the house was unoccupied, but all the doors were locked. She stated that the defendant had broken down the doors to gain entry and steal a washing machine. His refrigerator and television were also missing. F. Loum thus claimed 500,000 CFA francs in damages.
The defendant admitted to the facts. "I entered the house, then the bedroom to steal the washing machine. I found the house empty. I spent the night there and it was when I left at 7 a.m. that I took the machine," he said.
The prosecutor requested a two-year prison sentence. E. Dia considered this sentence excessive, as did the amount claimed by the plaintiff. However, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison and ordered him to pay 300,000 CFA francs in damages to F. Loum.
