La liste des bénéficiaires de l'aide à la presse sera bientôt publique
Invited to the morning show on Seneweb this Thursday, March 5, 2026, Habibou Dia, Director of Communication at the Ministry of Communication, provided crucial insights into the distribution of the Press Support and Development Fund (FADP). In a move towards a break with the past and greater transparency, he announced the imminent publication of the list of beneficiaries, thus marking the end of the era of "sprinkling" funding.
A publication under the banner of transparency
This announcement was eagerly awaited by media professionals. Habibou Dia confirmed that the list of media outlets that received state support for the current fiscal year will be published shortly. This initiative, spearheaded by the highest authorities, aims to establish a culture of accountability. "The Senegalese people will know exactly who received what," the Director of Communications stated, emphasizing that public funds must be used to clean up the sector.
The "streamlining": from 500 to 120 beneficiaries
The Seneweb broadcast provided Habibou Dia with an opportunity to justify the "streamlining" strategy implemented by his department. While in previous years more than 500 entities received subsidies, the new list has been drastically reduced to around 120 media companies.
This reduction is not accidental: it results from a rigorous audit and the requirement of strict compliance criteria. To be included on this list, companies had to prove their tax compliance, the payment of social security contributions, and the existence of employment contracts for their professional journalists.
A lever for development rather than a survival aid
According to the Director of Communications, the goal is to move from survival aid to a genuine driver of development. By focusing resources on compliant businesses, the ministry enables beneficiaries to receive more substantial funding, capable of financing modernization or training projects.
“We can no longer distribute aid to structures that exist only on paper or that do not respect workers’ rights,” Habibou Dia insisted. With this reform, the Senegalese state intends to permanently professionalize the national media landscape.
