Décoration de Babacar Ngom : Une faute politique et morale face au choix clair du peuple (Serigne Gaye Ndiéguene)

“Faced with the apparent disagreements between the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, I deliberately chose the path of appeasement and restraint for a long time. This choice was neither naive nor calculated, but an act of civic responsibility, out of respect for the institutions and for the stability of our country.” These remarks are from Serigne Gaye Ndiéguene, the departmental coordinator of the Movement of Domou Daara Patriots (MODDAP) in Thiès.

But, as Mame Ahmadou Barro Ndiéguene's grandson points out, "there comes a point where silence becomes complicity." He believes that "the elevation of Mr. Babacar Ngom, head of the SEDIMA Group, to the rank of Grand Cross of the National Order of the Lion constitutes a serious political error and a moral affront to thousands of Senegalese, particularly to the dispossessed farmers and citizens who believed in a genuine break with past practices."

According to the religious leader, "this distinction is a matter of honor for the Republic." He added, "Before coming to power, President Diomaye Faye publicly called Mr. Babacar Ngom a cynic, a traitor, and a land usurper. These remarks were neither anecdotal nor emotional; they reflected a clear political stance, based on publicly denounced facts."

Therefore, the Sheikh believes, a crucial question arises: "How can a man, yesterday presented as a symbol of injustice and land grabbing, become today an exemplary citizen decorated at the highest level of the State?"

In his view, “this abrupt reversal is not a simple communication error. It reveals a breakdown in coherence, an abandonment of the principles that mobilized the people and justified the hope placed in this government.” And above all, he believes that by making decisions contrary to collective memory and popular aspirations, the President of the Republic is digging his own political grave, dangerously straying from the very foundation that brought him to power.

At the same time, Serigne Gaye Ndiéguene stated unequivocally: Ousmane Sonko remains, even today, the undeniable and accepted choice of a large majority of Senegalese. Not out of a cult of personality, but out of loyalty to a clear, consistent, courageous political line aligned with the interests of the people. He also publicly and unequivocally reaffirmed his loyalty and total support for President Ousmane Sonko, his struggle, his vision, and the ideal of social justice and sovereignty that he embodies.

He stated that this position is neither circumstantial nor opportunistic, but rather founded on consistency, steadfastness, and truth. "This is not about threats, much less personal animosity. It is about a duty to the truth. The people are watching, understanding, and will judge. Senegal's political history is clear: one cannot betray popular trust with impunity, and one cannot govern indefinitely against the will of the people," the religious leader concluded.
