ArcelorMittal, Macky Sall, tortures : Après la sortie de Fadilou Keita, Marie Rose Faye calme le jeu
"Justice will do its job; we respect the separation of powers." This was the response from Marie Rose Khady Faye, government spokesperson. A guest on the program "En Vérité" on Radio Sénégal International, she spoke on several current economic and political issues. Questioned on the comments made by the Director General of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), Fadilou Keita, announcing possible prosecutions against former President Macky Sall in the ArcelorMittal case, she insisted on the distinction between the executive and judicial branches.
Reacting to Fadilou Keita's statement, which mentioned the opening of legal proceedings against Macky Sall in connection with the ArcelorMittal case, Marie Rose Khady Faye preferred to delay and reframe the debate. "We must differentiate between the two. We have the judicial and executive branches. The former handles prosecutions, and if there are proven facts, it will do so for any person facing justice," she explained.
She emphasized her commitment to the principle of the separation of powers, stating that the government will not interfere in the work of the judiciary. "We respect the separation of powers. Everyone must act within their own jurisdiction," she said, emphasizing that institutions now operate with clarity and accountability.
Torture perpetrators brought to justice
Also asked about the prosecution of alleged perpetrators of torture during political protests in recent years, Marie Rose Khady Faye maintained the same principled position. "These issues are the responsibility of the judiciary. It is up to the courts to investigate and determine responsibility," she said.
The government official was keen to reiterate that the new regime remains committed to the rule of law, where justice must be able to act freely, without political influence. "The transparency we advocate does not stop at public finances. It also concerns the functioning of our institutions," she concluded.
