Assemblée nationale : Découvrez le seul député d'opposition qui a voté
While the opposition parliamentary groups, including Taxawu Senegaal, Takku Wallu and the non-affiliates, chose to massively boycott the session dedicated to the reinstatement of Ousmane Sonko and the election of the new president of the National Assembly, one opposition MP nevertheless decided to stand out.
This is Cheikh Tidiane Youm, national and parliamentary secretary general of the Party of Unity and Rallying (PUR), who insisted on taking part in the vote despite the call for a systematic boycott launched by a large part of his colleagues in the opposition.
When he placed his envelope in the ballot box, the PUR deputy was warmly applauded by the parliamentarians of the Pastef-Les Patriotes group, in an atmosphere marked by the lively ovations and encouragement of the deputies of the majority bloc.
This action by Cheikh Tidiane Youm appears to be a clear break with the line defended by several opposition figures, who continue to denounce a process that is "not in accordance" with the National Assembly's rules of procedure. This solitary participation in the vote on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, is sure to fuel the debates and exacerbate the tensions already palpable surrounding this parliamentary session, which is being closely watched by the public.
