Assemblée nationale : députés du Pastef contre Abdourahmane Diouf, les minutes d'un face à face mouvementé
The atmosphere was electric in the National Assembly. The examination of the 2026 budget for the Ministry of the Environment and Ecological Transition, held this Tuesday in the Finance Committee, turned into a full-blown political confrontation. Members of the Pastef party carried out their threats to attack Minister Abdourahmane Diouf, whom they accuse of sowing discord between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
According to L'Observateur, which provided details of this heated meeting, the initially restrained tension exploded after the publication of the press release announcing the appointment of Aminata Mimi Touré as head of the "Diomaye Président" coalition, replacing Aïda Mbodji. This decision was perceived by Sonko's supporters as a direct affront to their leader, especially since he had publicly opposed it during his 10th rally.
The exchanges quickly turned heated. “When MP Takku Wallu Barane Fofana took the floor to praise Dr. Abdourahmane Diouf’s qualities as a seasoned intellectual, who is doing remarkable work, a Pastef MP literally exploded in anger, almost verbally abusing him, insults on the tip of her tongue,” reports the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group. The paper adds that MP Ismaïla Diallo initiated the hostilities, followed by Fatou Diop Cissé and other Pastef parliamentarians, who launched a series of attacks against Minister Diouf. Some, like Fodé Mané, chose another form of protest, observing long minutes of silence to express their disagreement.
The uproar intensified after the controversial press release was verified. “Several members of parliament left the room to confirm its authenticity. Some slipped away to the restaurant, others retreated to their offices,” wrote L’Observateur, adding that the president of the Pastef parliamentary group, Ayib Daffé, was seen on the phone for a long time before returning to the room. “Unlike several of his colleagues, he remained measured and civil in his remarks, as did MP Samba Dang.”
Despite this tense atmosphere, the Finance Committee ultimately succeeded in adopting the ministry's budget, which increased from 49 to 117 billion CFA francs, representing a 136% rise. True to his calm and composed style, Minister Abdourahmane Diouf defended his budget without giving in to provocations, the same source noted.
