Assemblée nationale : La réforme du Code électoral adoptée à une large majorité
The National Assembly of Senegal adopted, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, draft law no. 11/2026 amending the Electoral Code. The text passed the vote following a ballot in which the outcome was largely favorable to the reform.
Of the 165 registered members of parliament, 140 actually participated in the vote (21 of whom voted by proxy). The reform bill received 127 votes in favor, 11 against, and 2 abstentions. Proportionally, the votes in favor overwhelmingly outnumbered those against, with only 7.86% voting against and 1.43% abstaining.
This major revision, which sparked passionate debate throughout the day, is part of reforms aimed at redefining eligibility requirements and strengthening the inclusiveness of the electoral process. Following its adoption by a comfortable majority, the text must now be submitted to the President of the Republic for promulgation, thus paving the way for a new era in Senegal's upcoming elections.
