BOUGAR DIOUF : "L'État ne connaît pas l'amitié"
As a member of the Diomaye-President coalition, the president of the Union of Senegalese Pan-Africanists (UPS) is not among those who believe there is a betrayal in the dispute between Sonko and Diomaye.
"For some time now, I have been hearing heavy words circulating in the debates: betrayal, loyalty, fidelity... And often, these words are used to set people against each other, to divide the sons of the same country, the children of the same nation. Treason has no ethnicity, loyalty has no color and the Republic has no kinship," said Bougar Diouf.
For him, the State knows neither friendship nor emotions, but rather its interests which, he says, come before everything else. "Senegal is a Republic! A secular, sovereign and united Republic, led today by Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. So, when some try to make people believe that the relationship between Diomaye and Sonko is a story of betrayal, I tell them: it's not a story of friendship, it's a story of the State!" he confided.
Bougar added that the State does not choose based on emotion, but on reason. And he believes that when the nation's best interests are at stake, no friendship, no affinity, no parallel coalition can take precedence over Senegal.
"Yes, there were tensions in the Diomaye-President coalition. Yes, there were disagreements. But the truth is that while some were plotting in the shadows to create a parallel coalition, others were working in the light, respecting the institutions, and remaining loyal to the Republic," Mr. Diouf stated.
According to him, those who set up parallel structures, recruited leaders, and organized meetings behind others' backs are not the victims. For him, they are the true instigators of the division.
"Bassirou Diomaye Faye did not betray anyone. He suffered. He endured. He remained silent. He maintained his dignity. But today, the time has come to tell the truth. The time has come to say enough is enough! The time has come to say that's enough! Senegal has suffered too much from ego clashes. We do not need self-proclaimed heroes, we need builders," according to Bougar Diouf.
