Centenaire de Me Abdoulaye Wade : le PDS s'organise, deux comités mis en place
The call made by Serigne Mbacké Ndiaye on the set of Jakaarlo (TFM) for a reunion between the former companions of Me Abdoulaye Wade has revived a dream long cherished by the former Senegalese President from 2000 to 2012: that of the unity of the liberal family.
This call found a favorable response from leading figures such as Oumar Sarr, former coordinator of the PDS and current president of the Liberal and Democrat Party (PLD-And Sugali), and Abdou Salam Bass, permanent secretary in charge of elections for Bokk Gis Gis - the party of Pape Diop, former mayor of Dakar and close to Wade. Both, quoted by Le Soleil, are in favor of a political refoundation around the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), considered the matrix of Senegalese liberalism.
While this dynamic of reunion aims to build a credible political alternative to the domination of Pastef, it is also structured around a symbolic objective: the preparation of the centenary of Abdoulaye Wade, planned for 2026.
To this end, the national daily notes, the PDS has set up two strategic structures: the Committee for the Reconstruction of the Liberal Family, operational since August 2025, and the one responsible for organizing the centenary of Me Abdoulaye Wade.
According to Ousmane Goudiaby, president of the National Federation of Liberal Executives (FNCL), quoted by the same source, this approach aims both to honor the legacy of Mr. Wade and to unite liberal forces around Karim Wade in preparation for the 2029 presidential election. He advocates for internal reconciliation within the PDS and an opening towards former party comrades – such as Ousmane Ngom or Cheikh Tidiane Sy – in order to form a majority and united coalition.
For Abdou Salam Bass, the reconstitution of the liberal momentum cannot be achieved without the PDS, "which constitutes its source." As for Oumar Sarr, he believes that this union should mark the first step towards the creation of a large national mass party, founded on integral democracy and pan-Africanism, values dear to Abdoulaye Wade. The latter celebrated his 99th birthday on May 29.

Quand à ces retrouvailles,je pense que la vieile garde libérale doit plésbiciter les jeunes du parti afin qu'on ait enfin une opposition digne de ce nom. Car le pastef est comme un jeune lutteur en pleine force rompu aux mbapates. Magoup mbeur dou ko yeungueul dé! À bon entendeur...
Nous souhaitons tous longue vie au premier président élu véritablement par les sénégalais. Le second est diomaye sur demande de Sonko.
Mais comme le dit la sourate lokman, la connaissance de l’heure est auprès d’Alah . lui seul sait qui sera en vie cette année et sur quelle terre nous mourrons.
