"C'est le seul représentant légitime du peuple" : la publication surprenante de Juan Branco sur Diomaye Faye et Ousmane Sonko
In a lengthy text titled "The Legacy of the Senegalese Revolution Is at Stake," lawyer Juan Branco revisited the conflict between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. According to Branco, there is only one legitimate representative of the Senegalese people, and that is not President Diomaye Faye. He argues that Faye only came to power thanks to Sonko's voting instructions.
"When this great man, Ousmane Sonko, and he alone, wins an election in the first round, with hardly any electoral campaign, by winning more than 50% of the votes, for his party, and months later, alone and without any other support, almost all the seats in the national assembly go to him, there is no institutional formality that matters," he writes in particular in his publication, which Seneweb offers you in full.
"The legacy of the Senegalese revolution is at stake.
This is not just about the fight against impunity. It is not just about respecting the promises for which so many have sacrificed themselves, from the CFA franc to the reconfiguration of relations with France, and including a more general reconquest of the sovereignty of a people sacrificed for too long.
This is the story of a people and its youth who taught the world a lesson.
The Senegalese government has a historical responsibility, and all those who in such circumstances speak of 2029 are insulting the heroes of a struggle that consecrated them.
An administration remains. Its supervisory body seems paralyzed, afraid to challenge it.
The same ambassadors, the same magistrates, the same economists and administrators are in power, accompanied only by a few activists, placed here and there in positions where they find themselves with radically limited room for maneuver.
Secretaries-general from the old world still dictate their law, hold back, extinguish, organize pitiful trips, proclaim the impossibility of changing the world.
So how can we not be outraged when, after promoting and appointing her, we seek to offer on a silver platter to a representative of the old world, of this corrupt political class, the fruit of so many sacrifices, such heroic struggles, such determined commitments?
When, in six months, thousands of Senegalese perish once again on the high seas, these same people will turn a blind eye as they always have, and will be indifferent to it, too happy with the comfort that they will have, once again, wrested from the blood, sweat and waterlogged lungs of a sacrificed people.
When, later still, in the East, armed groups begin to nibble away at territory that seemed invulnerable, because nothing will have been done to reconfigure regional security, because no strategic thinking will have been developed to break free from the colonial patterns that have dominated for seventy years, they will continue to accuse those who governed yesterday.
When, in the context of a fratricidal power struggle, the holder of the supreme magistracy is tempted to activate the levers that yesterday pulled on his own people, in order to remain in power, then nothing can be done to avoid it.
And no intervention will prevent bloodshed from occurring again.
I solemnly warn of a betrayal that everything seems to foreshadow.
There will be no excuses. No political soap opera to make people admit it, to make them forget.
The trauma is too long-lasting, and too deeply ingrained.
Senegal must arm itself to break free from the corrupt spiral that seeks to destroy it. It must counter the IMF with new forces; it must send emissaries to each of the BRICS states—once, twice, a hundred times—to emphasize the importance of helping it transform itself, of financing massive industrialization and university education programs. It must revive bilateral cooperation policies that will make it a friend to its people and a haven for dignified and free men, far removed from the networks of corruption and the men in suits whose only ambition is to plunder it.
He must position himself as he has never done in a year and a half on Palestine, at the UN, within the new international institutions, harass his slumbering comrades and give his glory and talents, his immense dormant power, a dimension that none of his leaders have ever sought.
One of the proudest and most dignified peoples in the world, which has given all of humanity a lesson in courage, cannot allow its legacy to be plundered in this way.
How is it that the Dakarnave swindlers are still in power, given the harm they've caused? That Xavier Niel and Orange continue to dominate? That the Bill Gates Foundation has deepened its penetration of a country it considers, like the colonizers of old, a land to be civilized?
How can we understand that those who killed yesterday are still not only free, but also on the billions that violence and compromise have given them?
How can we understand that the promised monetary sovereignty was sacrificed, abandoned, without a word being spoken? That we had to wait for Chad and Ivory Coast to take their measures in terms of defense sovereignty before steps were taken at that level?
How is it that the Atépa continue to grovel around the government and sign the Senegal 2050 transformation plans, while their relatives in foreign affairs continue to organize trips for the President which lead him to be received in back rooms of the Quai d'Orsay, where I used to take my naps at 22, received by a mere director of administration, after Macron had taken the photographs which allowed him to show that nothing had changed?
How can we not suffer, in all our hearts, in the face of such a spectacle?
And how can we explain this pitiful spectacle of impunity, in which so many families, silent out of dignity, are enraged at the idea of having lost their loved ones, while those who stole from them continue to be protected and decorated?
How can we explain, in this mess, that the authorities deliberately blocked, two years later, a Spanish letter of request concerning the abduction of one of their own, because I consider myself one of them, with the sole objective of the truth, of determining who at that time betrayed the people, their will, their laws, for the benefit of some unknown arrangement with the Elysée?
How can one believe, without feeling betrayed, without being overly naive, that someone would have risked drowning only for nothing to be done about it afterwards?
This is not a question of individuals. It is a question of responsibility.
When this great man, Ousmane SONKO, and he alone, wins an election in the first round, with hardly any electoral campaign, by winning more than 50% of the votes, for his party, and months later, alone and without other support, almost all the seats in the national assembly come to him, there is no institutional formality that can stand.
No minor offense, no smokescreen can be invoked. This man, who defeated a system and forced it to yield, is the sole legitimate leader of this country, the delegate of a sovereignty bestowed upon him by the people, and he bears full responsibility for it.
And nothing within this system and this old world could be opposed to it.
The President of the Republic was elected on the basis of a slogan that presented him as the delegate of this sovereignty. Of this man.
Regarding their identity.
This was due to the compromises that the old world tried to impose on the new, in the hope of being able to leave in peace.
Those who left are only accountable for these actions. And not only those who, carried by the people, managed to rise to power.
We must now wipe the slate clean. No link, no thread, no past commitment, real or imagined, would justify any compromise with a world that wanted to kill us.
Who almost sank a man, Ousmane Sonko, into the bowels of the earth, by attacking his dignity and integrity.
To all those who claim that there is, by way of institutional formalities, some impediment to the sole legitimate representative of this people exercising power, it is the man of law, sovereign in his word, who answers you:
Those who obstruct the sovereignty of the people, and think that any text justifies it, should submit or resign.
And if they refuse, then let a constitutional reform be proposed to its people and its representatives so that the latter can resolve the conflicts of legitimacy that would be imposed.
Let us then see the result, and who, de facto, holds the power and its legitimacy.
Men and institutions are merely instruments in the service of a will.
Serving a people who fought and accepted to shed tears of blood to overcome their corruption, and to escape the spiral into which their leaders had plunged them.
Let those who would dare to rise up in the face of this evidence tremble.
There will be no excuses in the face of history, and no one will sacrifice themselves again.
On November 8th, Ousmane SONKO showed who he was.
He showed what he was.
The voice of the people. The voice of a people.
From a people who have done enough that no one can claim to be legitimate in leading them without respecting or listening to them.
Thoughts to all those who, in courage and impatience, have given everything and will continue to give everything to ensure that the beauty of a world that so many hope will be sabotaged and appropriated, and subjected to private interests, prevails.
Long live these free men, and may prosperous lands be born from their blood.

J’ai toujours dit que tôt ou tard PASTEF va imploser de l’intérieur. La quasi-totalités de ses militants prétendent soutenir le jub jubal jubanti mais n’y croient pas. Selon leur comprehension, le jubanti doit seulement s’appliquer aux autres citoyens mais pas à eux. Ils croyaient tous que dès qu’ils seront au pouvoir ils allaient s’enrichir et devenir milliardaires. Ils sont déçus parce que Diomaye ne les laisse pas s’enrichir c’est pourquoi cette division est entretenu par principalement ceux qui n’ont pas de postes et restent toujours chômeurs ( incompétence et absence de qualification pour intégrer une entreprise privée) et ceux qui ont des postes mais ne peuvent pas s’enrichir comme il le voulaient. Aussi longtemps que Diomaye va prôner le jubanti pour tout le monde, il sera combattu par ses camarades de parti parce Diomaye a ses caméras braquées sur eux
Sonko est cohérent et honnête et tient ses promesses qu’il a fait au peuple sénégalais mais on veut l’en empêcher et ça les Sénégalais ne l’accepteront pas .Diomay a surpris et a déçu les senegalais

Me Juan Branco a écrit un très beau texte aux allures de rappel et de ce que devrait représenter ce mandat.
Toute autre interprétation n'est que fausseté et méchanceté.
Ce décalage crée une tension réelle entre la fonction qu’il occupe désormais et l’identité politique qui continue de le définir.
Dans ce texte, je n’ai pas lu l’analyse d’un avocat ; j’ai lu la prise de position d’un partisan convaincu, manifestement un pro Sonko.
