«C’est répugnant» : «Sonko devait d’abord démissionner»
In an interview published this Thursday in L'Observateur, Oumar Sarr, coordinator of the Front for the Defense of the Republic (FDR), commented on the request for a review of Ousmane Sonko's trial against Mame Mbaye Niang, submitted to the Supreme Court by the Minister of Justice, Yassine Fall. "How can a Minister of Justice, a member of the government, take a measure concerning his head of government? It is ethically unacceptable," thundered the former minister under Wade and Macky Sall.
The former mayor of Dagana continued: “This is a major conflict of interest. The very least a Prime Minister could have done was resign first before the government made a judicial decision concerning him, even if it meant returning to office after his judgment was reviewed. He cannot lead a government and then ask a minister under his authority to judge him. This is unacceptable and repugnant in a Republic.”
Oumar Sarr sees in Yassine Fall's initiative "a clear desire to subjugate the justice system. This is against the spirit and the letter of the Constitution. The separation of powers must not be touched."
