Charge écrasante du service de la dette, les impacts directs : Quand Thierno Alassane Sall alertait
“On Thursday, November 6, during my address to the Finance Committee, speaking to the Minister of Finance and his colleague in charge of the economy, I warned of the crushing burden of debt servicing. I also cautioned about the direct impact on this debt (through interest payments) and on the ability to access the financial market due to the conflict between Diomaye and Sonko.” This was the warning issued by MP Thierno Alassane Sall.
But, laments the president of the La République des Valeurs/Réewum Ngor party, "many of my colleagues in Pastef scoffed at my remarks." And he adds indignantly: less than a week later, Senegal is sinking into the deepest circles of financial hell, following developments in the power struggle at the top.
The former Minister of Energy under Macky Sall observes that "Pastef, the Diomaye Coalition, and their numerous allies have lost all sense of ethics and responsibility by offering the people a pathetic power struggle while Senegal's 'enemies' are working day and night. The country is facing a colossal debt that makes urgent investments virtually impossible. Poverty and hunger are affecting ever-widening social strata, and JNIM is at our borders. And that's just the beginning."
He believes that in this context, talking about a transitional president, boycotting cabinet meetings, and dividing the country between pro-Diomaye and pro-Sonko factions is not only childish, but also a betrayal of Senegal. For Thierno Alassane Sall, "the real high treason would be to let this chaos flourish."
