Coalition Diomaye Président : la gestion contestée, des alliés claquent la porte et créent leur propre plateforme
On the eve of the 2024 presidential election, the Diomaye President coalition was created to support the candidacy of Bassirou Diomaye Faye. But more than a year after his victory, the coalition is experiencing significant internal turbulence, linked to the authoritarian management of its president, Aïda Mbodj.
According to Les Echos, which relayed the information, several members are denouncing an overly rigid mode of operation, accusing Aïda Mbodj of regularly excluding certain allies from the coalition's WhatsApp group for expressing a dissenting opinion. This climate of mistrust and censorship has gradually created a form of lethargy, pushing a fringe of activists to create a new space for reflection and action, the same source points out.
The newspaper states that it was in this context that the National Platform of the Presidential Majority Jub Jubal Jubanti was born, led by Sidy Makhtar Coly and Pape Sène. Presented as a dynamic alternative, it brings together more than 400 members in a WhatsApp group where regular debates are held on government policies, the decisions of President Diomaye Faye, those of the Prime Minister, and the activities of the National Assembly. These exchanges notably led to the development of a government communication plan, presented to the National Assembly and welcomed by the authorities.
Informed of this initiative, Aïda Mbodj and her supporters denounced a maneuver aimed at "sabotaging the unity of the coalition." The president, quoted by the daily newspaper, refuted any internal lethargy and assured that the coalition remained active, citing recent proposals submitted to the head of state for a change of name and perspective.
This controversy has reignited debate within the coalition, particularly on the leaders' WhatsApp group, where many members have reaffirmed their support for Aïda Mbodj. Some accuse the dissidents of using internal channels to prepare a disguised opposition, while others urge them to leave the coalition without creating tensions.
For their part, Sidy Makhtar Coly and his allies are taking responsibility for their approach and asserting their legitimacy: they say they have been working for several months outside the official framework of the coalition, while remaining loyal to Diomaye Faye's political project. Refusing to give in to attacks, they affirm their desire to focus on the essentials: supporting the regime and contributing to its influence, adds Les Échos.
