Crise à l’UCAD: RÉEWMI déplore les violences et appelle au dialogue
The RÉEWMI party expressed its deep sorrow following the tragic events that have occurred in recent days in Senegalese universities, particularly at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), where clashes caused the death of a student and left several injured on Monday, February 9, 2026.
In a public statement, the party president, Idrissa Seck, along with all the leaders of RÉEWMI, offered their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased student, Abdoulaye Ba, to the university community and to the entire Senegalese people.
The party also offered prayers for the deceased to rest in peace, asking Allah to grant him His mercy and forgiveness, while imploring strength and courage for his family in the face of this painful ordeal.
Faced with this worrying situation, RÉEWMI urged the government to act responsibly in managing the university crisis. It stressed the need to prioritize dialogue with stakeholders in the academic community and to avoid any form of repression within academic spaces, believing that only a concerted and peaceful approach will preserve the stability and educational mission of the university.
The party finally calls for a deep reflection on the structural causes of recurring tensions in universities, in order to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
