Crise au sommet de l’État : La coalition DJONE tire la sonnette d’alarme sur les tensions entre le président et son Premier ministre

The DJONE coalition held an important political meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the end of which it presented a worrying assessment of the national situation. In a statement released after the meeting, the party, led by Mohamed Moustapha Diagne, expressed serious concerns about what it described as the "institutional and economic drift" characterizing the current governance of Senegal.

Dissension at the heart of power

According to the DJONE coalition, long-hidden internal disputes within the presidential movement have now erupted into the open. These tensions, according to the statement, reflect "irreconcilable differences regarding the vision, priorities, and direction of the regime."

The document notably mentions a fundamental opposition between the President of the Republic, who seeks to prioritize national reconciliation and development, and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, accused of locking himself into "a logic of permanent confrontation and excessive judicialization of the mandate".

The Sonko case, at the center of criticism

For the DJONE coalition, the dispute surrounding the restructuring of the Diomaye-President coalition is merely the latest example of an internal power struggle revealing a latent political crisis. The statement calls on the Head of State to "fully assume his responsibilities" and to reiterate that "his sole allegiance must be to the Senegalese people, the custodians of universal suffrage."

The tone hardens when the text describes a Prime Minister with a "confrontational temperament," accused of having alienated not only the opposition and the press, but also judges, international partners, and even his own allies. His discourse, deemed "radical," has, according to the coalition, "undermined confidence, discouraged investment, and contributed to the deterioration of the national economy."

Governance in crisis

The DJONE coalition also paints a bleak picture of the country's economic situation: persistent inflation, declining purchasing power, business failures, and massive job losses. The statement criticizes the Prime Minister for attempting to offset these imbalances with increased taxation on citizens, thereby exacerbating their daily struggles.

A call for presidential responsibility

Faced with what it considers a political and economic impasse, the DJONE coalition is appealing directly to the President of the Republic. "He must face reality," the statement insists, arguing that Mr. Sonko, "more concerned with his political future in 2029 than with the success of the current term," now constitutes "an obstacle to the economic and social progress of Senegal."

In conclusion, the coalition calls on the Head of State to "find an honorable way out" of the current crisis and to work towards a "reconciled, peaceful, and just" Senegal. For, the text emphasizes, "without stability, there can be no lasting prosperity."
