Thierno Bocoum, President of the AGIR-les leaders movement, published a strong critique denouncing the behavior and statements of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko regarding the crisis in Guinea-Bissau, stating that this constitutes an "unacceptable drift" in foreign policy.
According to Thierno Bocoum, the President's responsiveness and initiative in the face of the neighboring crisis clearly demonstrate that he fully holds the authority in matters of foreign policy. He commends the President's "clear understanding of the security challenges" and his willingness to act before the situation deteriorates.
The author contrasts this presidential action with the Prime Minister's statements, which, according to him, attempt to impose a "personal diplomacy" aligned with authoritarian regimes. The criticism focuses primarily on the Prime Minister's remarks before the National Assembly, where he allegedly chose to speak of a "conspiracy." Thierno Bocoum considers this accusation "gratuitous, ill-timed, unreasonable, and contrary to the national interest," as it implies that the constitutionally deposed president of Guinea-Bissau is in collusion with his coup plotters.
Thierno Bocoum also accuses the Prime Minister of having "unnecessarily reopened wounds" by reiterating his old diatribes against ECOWAS, at the very moment when the President of Senegal is engaged in a diplomatic process with this same organization to stabilize the situation at the border.
He points out that the official statement from the Ministry of African Integration, published on November 27, 2025, nevertheless demonstrates a "clear, republican, and responsible stance," condemning the seizure of power by force and demanding the restoration of constitutional order. This statement proves, according to Thierno Bocoum, that the President personally led the discussions and arranged for the chartering of a government aircraft.
In conclusion, the President of AGIR-les leaders believes that the Prime Minister is "shirking his responsibilities of government solidarity and weakening Senegal's international standing" at a time when the country most needs "doctrinal unity." He accuses him of straying from the national course and placing his ego where the sense of the state should reside.
