In the Matam region, the flooding of the Senegal River continues to bring disaster and despair, causing considerable damage. The flooding of roads, homes, and crop fields are the most visible consequences. Faced with the numerous inconveniences experienced by the populations in Adabéré, Verma, Dembancané, and also in Nguidjilone, a parliamentarian echoed the complaints of the distressed population. MP Banta Wagué said he was deeply moved by the situation during a donation delivery visit that took him to areas affected by the floods. In some localities, where the canoe has become a primary means of transportation, access to villages is also achieved by carts that brave the vast expanses of flooded land. This incredible odyssey fuels the daily distress of the populations.

"What we endured to reach the town of Nguidjilone was truly catastrophic. From the Ndouloumadji bridge, we were forced to take carts to cross vast pools of water with difficulty, and after that, pirogues also provided transport," he said.

Furthermore, he informed that the population of Dandé Mayo (villages along the river) is suffering and that the inhabitants are in disarray. It is high time that significant resources are deployed also by our authorities and the diaspora to overcome this situation. "In the area, there is despair, and I am driven by a feeling of frustration. After so many years, until now, we are here. These are scenes that must be experienced to understand them," said the deputy, departmental coordinator of the Pastef (power) party in Matam.

After Adabéré, Verma, Dembancané, the victims of Nguidjilone received donations of food, detergents and impregnated mosquito nets.
